合成方法編輯
1.制備方法：由肉桂酸乙酯催化加氫制得。加氫反應在高壓釜中進行，采用鉻-銅-鋇催化劑，溫度為200℃，氫壓約20MPa。加氫反應5-9h后，冷卻濾去催化劑，濾液用乙醚提取。提取液回收乙醚后進行減壓蒸餾，收集110-112℃（1.06kPa）餾分，即為成品，收率約85%。另一種制法是氯芐與環氧乙烷通過格氏反應得到3-苯基丙醇氯鎂鹽，再用硫酸水解得到3-苯基丙醇。此法收率約65-70%。
2.于高壓反應釜中加入肉桂酸乙酯(2)57g(0.32mol)，5g鉻-銅-鋇催化劑，密閉反應釜。用氮氣置換空氣，再用氫氣置換氮氣。通入氫氣至壓力20MPa，直至氫氣不再吸收，約需5～9h。反應結束后，分出剩余壓力，打開反應釜，取出液體，濾去催化劑，乙醚洗滌。蒸出乙醚后減壓分餾，收集110～112℃/1.06kPa的餾分，得3-苯基-1-芐醇(1)27g，收率85%。
3.于裝有攪拌器、兩個回流冷凝器的5L反應瓶中，加入925mL干燥的甲苯，金屬鈉168g(7.3mol),油浴加熱至沸，金屬鈉熔化后開始攪拌。撤去熱源，由一冷凝器的頂部滴加4-苯基-間二氧六環(2)328g(2.0mol)溶于正丁醇311g(4.2mol)的溶液，約30～60min加完。冷至室溫，慢慢滴加由100mL濃硫酸溶于800mL水的溶液。分出有機層，有機層加水500mL和5%的硫酸使之呈中性。分出有機層，回收甲苯，減壓蒸餾，收集113～115℃/0.4kPa的餾分，得3-苯基-1-丙醇(1)224～227g,收率82.2%～83.4%。 [3]

常用于藥物及香料合成。醫藥工業中是中樞骨胳肌松弛劑強盤松的中間體。該品具有甜的花香香氣和甜密餞香味，稀釋后有清鮮愉快瓜果香。天然品存在于草莓、菌合香膏、安息香膏、茶葉、桂葉油等中，我國 GB2760-86規定為暫時允許使用的食用香料。GB 2760-1996規定為暫時允許使用的食用香料。主要用以配制桃、杏、李、西瓜、梅、草莓和胡桃、榛等堅果型香精。
